JIMMY

 

Jimmy is 13 years old

 

12hh Welsh mountain pony. Riders up to 30kg. He has a calm nature and loves to play games.

Used for Therapeutic Riding and lead rein and walking riding lessons.

GREGORY

 

Gregory is 12 years old.

 

He is a good all rounder and is used for Riding Lessons and Therapeutic Riding. Riders up to 60kg (max weight allowed 65kg)

Therapeutic Riding

 

To provide a safe a encouraging environment where children with mild disabilities can improve their overall health and well-being through the use of horses.

Riding Lessons

 

To provide the foundation, guidance and instruction for children to learn, improve and maintain skills in their chosen area of the equestrian sport.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST/HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Shelley Thomson has been involved with horses for over 20 years either riding, competing, schooling or jugding at local dressage and ribbon days. Over the last 10 years Shelley has been teaching riders of  all levels, ages and abilities. She has completed beginner to senior coaches courses with New Zealand Pony Club Association (D, C, C+ and above riding and theory). In November 2015 she completed a Hippotherapy Level One course in WA, Perth.

 

In December 2013 Shelley graduated as an Occupational Therapist at Auckland University of Technology.  Following this worked with older adults in the community assessing their needs and spending time volunteering to assist children with Autism, Down Syndrome and Developmental Delays, has attended workshops in Framework for Autism in New Zealand, Equine Assisted Learning, Manual Handling and St Johns First Aid for Children in January 2016.

 

Shelley is a compassionate person dedicated to doing the best work possible to better the lives of individuals who experience daily challenges. She strongly believes that all individuals are entitled to have the best tools and guidance available giving them the same opportunities as others so they can engage with family and friends within their community. It is very rewarding to be part of their journey to be more relaxed, confident and to improve their physical capabilities.

FACILITIES

Headway Equestrian is set on 10 acres in Jackson Way, Silverdale.

Shed with attached tack room/feed room

3m x 4m covered yard 

4m x 4m detached stable

3.6 x 3.6 m concrete yard

2 small holding paddocks

20m x 40m cushionride dressage arena, flat paddock for jumping and games

Cross country jumps intro to pre-training and show jumps available

4 large paddocks with different gradients for riding and all year round grazing
